Number (N)ine has a cult-like following unlike any other fashion brand for a reason. Takahiro Miyashita’s first formal entry into the fashion space began in 1997 with a bang. His first collection wore Miyashita’s punk influences and obsession with Americana on its sleeve, and the brand continued to do so until it’s death in 2009.
The brand takes its name from the song “Revolution 9” by The Beatles. Much like every band that inspired Miyashita, Number (N)ine too had to break up in 2009. While Number (N)ine continues to produce collections under new ownership, Miyashita left the brand after creative differences and management issues.
Miyashita currently designs for the cult brand, Takahiro Miyashita TheSoloist, his work for Number (N)ine is particularly in-demand in archival fashion circles. These days,Number (N)ine is best known for its jeans and T-shirts.
