Scarlett Rouge, Like Mother, Like Daughter
Being born the daughter of two influential artists, one could feel like they are living in the shadow of their parents, but not Scarlett Rouge. Scarlett, the daughter of cultural icon Michelle Lamy and filmmaker Richard Newton, has carved out her own path among the giants.
Having spent most of her life between Los Angeles and Lyon, Rouge is influenced by mythos, geographical settings, and navigations between cultures and disciplines. She explores these topics through several mediums which include painting, sculpture, and performance arts.
A central theme in Rouge’s work is reinterpreting the mythical with a contemporary take that depicts our current political and sociological systems. To Rouge “art has always been a means to reconcile the mystical realm to the material world… it exist without physical boundaries, art can guide us to descend into and appreciate the darkness, and usher us back towards the awakening of light that shines at the end of the tunnel.”
Now based in Italy, Rouge continues to explore the mythical and its relation to our own existence.
